Why Tomas Soucek was sent-off vs Tottenham Hotspur as Premier League explain decision

Send Push

It has been revealed why Tomas Soucek was sent off during West Ham's clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium on Saturday evening. The 30-year-old midfielder was given his marching orders shortly after the break following a challenge on Joao Palhinha.

Jarred Gillett brandished the red card and, Soucek left the field. The Video Assistant Referee, John Brooks, and his assistant, Natalie Aspinall, quickly reviewed the incident at Stockley Park, confirming the on-field decision.

An official statement from the Premier League Match Centre on X, formerly known as Twitter, reads: "The referee's call of red card to Soucek for serious foul play was checked and confirmed by VAR, with the contact deemed to be high on the shin which endangered the safety of the opponent."
