William Saliba's cheeky reaction to Liverpool star's Premier League title jibe at Arsenal

William Saliba was teased by Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate about the Premier League title race - and the Arsenal defender responded in cheeky fashion.

The Gunners are sitting pretty at the of the table, one point ahead of Konate's Liverpool, who are the reigning champions.

With the contest paused for the international break, Saliba and Konate will have to put their clubs' battle aside and be team-mates for France for the next few days. But that hasn't totally quashed the pair's rivalry.

Konate had some fun at Saliba's expense during a signing session with fans at the French national team's base in Clairefontaine. A supporter had asked Konate to sign a photo of the Liverpool man lifting the Premier League trophy last season.

"Hey Wilo, it's you, right?" Konate joked while writing his signature. "No, no, it's you for this year," Saliba fired back.

Konate insisted: "It's for you this year," prompting the Arsenal ace to reply: "No, it's Liverpool again! We have to put pressure on them."

With Arsenal currently at the summit, Mikel Arteta's are indeed putting pressure on the champions. The two teams played each other at Anfield in August, as Liverpool came away with a late 1-0 win.

But Saliba is confident that the Gunners can be the ones lifting the trophy next May, having recently signed a whopping five-year contract extension. "I feel proud of myself because I first signed in 2019, and now in 2025, I'm still here to extend my contract," the Frenchman said after putting pen to paper on his new deal last month.

"I'm so happy. I feel at home. We have a good team, we have a good squad, we have good staff. The coach is perfect for me, so it's the best place to be.

"I savour every day when I have the opportunity to don this shirt. I strive to give everything, and now I'll contribute even more to this club and to the fans. The boss is one of the top managers in the world. He has aided me immensely, him and his staff, so I'm overjoyed to have them as a coach.

"I'm 24 now, and I think I haven't reached my peak. I have a lot of things to improve, a lot of things to give to this team, and I know that the coach and the staff will help me to become the best, or one of the best, defenders in the world and win trophies."

France play Azerbaijan in Paris on Friday in the first of two World Cup qualifiers this international window. Les Blues travel to Iceland next Monday for their second match.
