Philippines Graduation Rule: While exams and projects are mandatory for graduation degrees all over the world, the Philippines has implemented a very unique rule. Here any student will have to plant at least 10 trees before graduation or promotion, only then he will be given a degree. This rule is not only related to education, but is also a revolutionary step towards environmental protection.
The law was passed in 2019
The Philippines Parliament unanimously passed the 'Graduation Legacy for the Environment Act' in 2019. The purpose of this law is not only to give degrees, but also to promote a sense of responsibility towards nature among the youth.
This rule applies to students of all three levels - school, high school and college. This means that it is necessary for the student to plant trees for any level of academic degree.
Where will the plantation take place?
The government has specially marked mangrove forests, military areas, natural parks, and urban areas for this. Here the students will plant trees and these plants will be looked after under the supervision of local government agencies.
Big motive behind the trees
There was a time when 70% of the Philippines' land area was covered with forests, but now this figure has come down to around 20%. In view of this, the government has set a target of planting more than 175 million trees every year. In this way, with the participation of students, efforts are being made to restore environmental balance in the country.
This initiative does not limit education to bookish knowledge only, but also teaches social responsibility to the students at the grassroots level.
