The TCS World 10K Bengaluru, held on April 27, 2025, witnessed a thrilling atmosphere as nearly 40,000 runners participated in the iconic event. However, the excitement was overshadowed by an unfortunate series of injuries sustained by several participants, which were directly linked to the city's dilapidated infrastructure. The issue was raised by BJP MP , who was also part of the race and expressed his frustration regarding Bengaluru's road conditions.
Tejasvi Surya took to social media to criticize the state of the city's infrastructure. He flagged the issue of potholes and broken roads that posed a significant risk to runners, leading to multiple injuries during the event. Surya highlighted that the event, which was intended to showcase Bengaluru's sporting culture, ended up becoming a dangerous obstacle course for the participants.
In his comments, Surya stated that the event’s execution, despite its global recognition, was compromised due to the city’s inadequate infrastructure. He compared the experience unfavorably to the Mumbai Marathon, which he noted was held on smoother, pothole-free roads. “What we offered them was an obstacle race instead of a world-class experience,” Surya remarked, showing his concern over the event’s mismanagement.
Tejasvi Surya demands immediate action from city authorities
Tejasvi Surya also directed his frustration toward the local authorities, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath. The MP urged for an immediate overhaul of Bengaluru’s roads and civic amenities, emphasizing the urgent need for action to ensure the safety of residents and event participants.
Surya further noted that the poor road conditions not only disrupted the World 10K race but also affected the daily lives of Bengaluru’s citizens. He called for accountability and swift measures to address the recurring problem, including better maintenance and repair of roads.
