RCB top table after piling misery on CSK
In a high-octane IPL 2025 showdown at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a nail-biting two-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to climb to the top of the points table with 16 points from 11 matches.
Led by Rajat Patidar, RCB rode on blistering knocks from their top order to post a daunting total of 213/4. Virat Kohli was in sublime touch, hammering 62 off just 33 balls with five sixes and five fours. He shared a 97-run opening stand with Jacob Bethell, who contributed a fluent 55 off 33 deliveries, featuring eight boundaries and two sixes.
Romario Shepherd provided the late fireworks, slamming an unbeaten 53 off only 14 balls. His brutal assault included six sixes, with 33 runs coming off a single over bowled by Khaleel Ahmed. The knock saw him equal the record for the second-fastest fifty in IPL history.
CSK’s chase was anchored by a valiant effort from youngster Ayush Mhatre, who struck a superb 94 from 48 balls, and veteran Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 77 off 45. Despite their heroic efforts, CSK fell just short in a tense finish.
