Mumbai: Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra are set to experience a wet week as monsoon activity intensifies once again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding areas on Tuesday, August 12, accompanied by thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for the city as well as the Konkan coast, warning of lightning and heavy showers.
A low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on August 12, which is likely to increase rainfall intensity across Konkan, Vidarbha, and Central Maharashtra. The monsoon, which had weakened in recent days, is now regaining strength and the IMD forecasts an escalation in rainfall between August 12 and 14.
In Mumbai, low-lying areas such as Sion, Kurla, and Parel are at risk of waterlogging due to heavy downpours. The civic authorities have urged residents to plan travel carefully as local train and road traffic may be disrupted. Commuters have been advised to allow extra travel time and avoid flood-prone stretches where possible. No major disruption in traffic or local train services has been reported as of now.
