In a proactive step towards environmental conservation, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a large-scale tree plantation campaign to be undertaken during the upcoming monsoon season.

The initiative is part of the Maharashtra government’s 'Majhi Vasundhara' (My Earth) campaign, aimed at combating climate change and promoting ecological balance.

To ensure effective implementation, PMC has constituted a dedicated Tree Plantation Committee. The formation of the committee was finalized at a meeting held at the municipal headquarters, chaired by Additional Commissioner Ganesh Shete, and conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale.

The meeting saw participation from key officials, including Deputy Commissioners Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate and Swaroop Kharge, Assistant Commissioners Shriram Pawar and Dr. Rupali Mane, Chief Auditor Nilesh Nalawade, Head of Water Supply Vilas Chavan, zonal officers from all four municipal wards, and senior officers from the Environment, Garden, and Construction departments.

According to officials, PMC has developed a coordinated action plan in collaboration with multiple departments to facilitate smooth execution of the plantation drive. Each department has been assigned specific responsibilities based on its operational domain.

During the meeting, several suggestions were put forth by department heads regarding the implementation strategy. Based on these recommendations, the Additional Commissioner directed the Garden Department to present a detailed proposal in the coming week outlining locations, species selection, and maintenance plans for the plantation.
