Luggage Limit in Train: Indian Railways is now going to implement luggage limit for passengers. There will be a fixed limit of luggage for different coaches. Know how much luggage you can carry in which coach.

Indian Railways transports lakhs of passengers from one place to another across the country every day. Railways continuously take new steps to make the travel of passengers convenient and organized. Now the Railways is preparing to implement a rule under which train travel will also be subject to a luggage limit like flights. That means passengers may have to pay extra charges for carrying more luggage than the prescribed limit. 

Just like the baggage rules are applicable at the airport, similarly this system will now be applicable in trains as well. Although the railways had already made the luggage rules. But they were not fully implemented. Currently, there are no machines at the stations to check the weight of the luggage. But now machines will be installed under this rule. Know how much luggage can be carried in which coach of the train.

How much luggage can be carried in which coach? 

Indian Railways has set the limit of luggage for different coaches. If you are travelling in AC First Class, you can carry up to 70 kg of luggage without any extra charge. Whereas in AC Second Class this limit is 50 kg. Passengers travelling in Third AC and Sleeper Class can carry up to 40 kg of luggage. For General Class this limit has been fixed at 35 kg. However, if a passenger carries more luggage than the set limit, then he may have to pay extra charge for it. The purpose of this rule is to prevent overburden in trains and to ensure proper arrangement of space for everyone.

You will have to pay a fine for crossing the limit

If you carry luggage beyond the fixed limit while travelling in train, then you will have to pay a fine or extra charge for it. According to railway rules, passengers can carry extra luggage up to 10 kg as per their class. But if this limit is also exceeded, then it will be necessary to get the luggage checked from the luggage booking counter. If this is not done, then you will have to pay a fine and booking charges separately. Please note that electric luggage machines will be installed at the station to check the weight limit of the luggage.
