The arrival of autumn often brings an unwelcome invasion of ladybirds into our homes, as they seek out warm shelter following a hot summer. This year, the UK's dry summer has led to a surge in the aphid population, which is the main food source for these beetles.
While some folks might find ladybirds charming, having hundreds of them in your home can be quite unsettling. However, it's crucial not to kill them as they play a vital role in our ecosystem.
Instead, there are natural methods you can use to discourage them from entering your home.

In a recent post on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tip Facebook group, Tina Ribbans shared her plight: "We've had so many ladybirds invading our home today.
"Any idea on how to stop them please?"
Her query sparked over 110 responses from fellow group members, all eager to share their tried and tested tips, reports the Express.
Paula Tyrrell revealed: "We had this for years. They hibernate in the same place every year, around our bathroom frame.
"We sealed all around the window to stop them from coming in. They do go eventually."
Gemma Swallow suggested: "Try eucalyptus oil around entry points, it'll deter them. Worked for me."
Suze Carr added: "We have this problem too every year!
"I use essential oil, try eucalyptus or peppermint. It's cheap and deters spiders too."
Simply picking up the ladybirds and placing them back in the garden can also work, although this could prove challenging if you're dealing with hundreds of them.
October also sees an increase in other household pests, such as spiders, but there are plenty of ways to deter them as well.
This involves using robust plants they find, as well as applying essential oil around entry points to deter them.
