The Hundred Women’s 2025 tournament delivered one of its most exciting matches on August 9 in Cardiff, as London Spirit edged past Welsh Fire by just two runs. The hero of the match was 22-year-old all-rounder Charlie Knott, who dazzled with both bat and ball to secure victory for her team.
Batting first, London Spirit were bowled out for 124 runs in just 99 balls. Charlie Knott stood out with a commanding knock, top-scoring with 47 runs off 33 deliveries, which included seven boundaries. Her resilient batting provided crucial stability as her teammates struggled against tight bowling from Welsh Fire’s Freya Davis and Katie Levick, who took three wickets each.
In pursuit of 125, Welsh Fire fought hard but could only muster 122 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 100 balls. Knott once again made a telling impact, dismissing Welsh Fire captain Tammy Beaumont (who was restricted to just 11 runs) at a critical juncture. Knott finished with figures of one wicket for 16 runs from her 10 balls, making significant contributions in all facets of the game.
Despite solid efforts from Welsh Fire’s Sophia Dunkley (36 runs), Hayley Matthews (26 runs), and Jess Jonassen (29 runs), the team fell agonizingly short. Thanks to Knott’s all-round heroics, London Spirit clinched a memorable two-run win and captured the spotlight at The Hundred.
Earlier in the day, Manchester Originals also secured a two-run win over Oval Invincibles, with skipper Beth Mooney’s 70-run innings proving decisive as her side posted 139/6. Oval, anchored by Meg Lanning’s 56, finished just shy at 137/3 in their chase, as Manchester’s bowlers held their nerve in another thrilling finish.
