Terrifying Bus Fire on Jaipur-Delhi Highway Turns Journey into Tragedy
A routine journey turned into a nightmare in Rajasthan’s Manoharpur area of Jaipur district when a private sleeper bus caught fire after coming in contact with a high-tension electric wire on October 28. The horrifying incident claimed the lives of a father and his daughter from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, leaving 10 others injured, some seriously.
The deceased have been identified as Naseem Miyan (50) and his daughter Sanam (20). Shockingly, their entire family was on the same bus and witnessed the tragedy unfold right before their eyes.
🚌 How the Tragedy HappenedAccording to the police, the private bus was carrying over 50 laborers headed to a brick kiln in Manoharpur. The vehicle was moving along a narrow, unpaved route when items placed on the bus’s roof accidentally touched an overhead high-tension power line.
Within seconds, sparks ignited a massive fire, which spread rapidly through the bus. The presence of LPG cylinders used for cooking made the blaze uncontrollable.
Police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Tejpal Singh, confirmed that the fire engulfed the vehicle so quickly that several passengers had no time to escape. Locals and nearby workers rushed to help, managing to pull many passengers out, but Naseem and his daughter were trapped near the center of the bus and burned alive before help arrived.
😢 Family Witnessed the Horrific SceneNaseem’s wife Najma, along with their sons Raja and Faizan, and younger daughter Sehrun, were also traveling in the same bus. They saw the horrifying moment when flames consumed Naseem and Sanam, unable to save them despite desperate attempts.
Residents of their home village Sherpur Kalan in Pilibhit said the family had been traveling to Rajasthan for seasonal work. For the past three years, Naseem had been employed as a daily wage laborer at a local brick kiln in Manoharpur. Several other families from the same area also migrate regularly to Rajasthan for similar work.
🚑 Rescue and Medical ResponseAuthorities and fire officials arrived promptly after receiving the emergency call. The injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. Two individuals with critical injuries were later referred to Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital for advanced care.
Police have initiated an investigation into possible negligence and whether the bus violated safety norms. Officials noted that rooftop cargo and LPG cylinders are strictly prohibited on passenger buses, yet such practices continue unchecked in several areas.
🏠 Village Mourns the LossBack in Pilibhit, news of the tragedy plunged the entire Sherpur Kalan village into mourning. Neighbors and relatives gathered outside the family’s home, consoling the grieving mother and siblings. The bodies of Naseem and Sanam are being brought back to their hometown for the final rites.
Villagers said the victims were hardworking and well-respected. “They left home for work to secure a better future but never came back,” one resident said, holding back tears.
⚠️ Officials Call for Safety ChecksAuthorities have emphasized the urgent need to enforce stricter transport safety regulations to prevent such accidents. Rajasthan Police have issued advisories against carrying flammable materials and rooftop loads on passenger buses.
A district-level inquiry committee has been formed to review the incident and identify accountability. Officials said compensation will be provided to the deceased’s family and the injured laborers once the initial investigation is completed.
🚨 A Stark Reminder of Road Safety LapsesThis tragic fire highlights the growing concern over unsafe travel conditions for migrant workers in India. Many low-income laborers travel in overcrowded and poorly maintained vehicles, often without fire safety measures or insurance coverage.
Experts say there’s an urgent need for regular vehicle inspections, driver training, and strict monitoring of transport companies to prevent further loss of life.
🕯️ End of a Journey, Beginning of GriefWhat was meant to be a simple trip for work turned into a devastating loss for an entire family. As villagers in Pilibhit prepare to bid a final farewell to Naseem and Sanam, their story serves as a painful reminder of how negligence and poor safety standards can turn an ordinary journey into an unspeakable tragedy.
