Former cricketer and actor Yograj Singh, father of Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh, has once again opened up about the strained relationship with his son. In a recent interview with Untold Punjab, Yograj shared emotional details from his past, revealing how his bond with Yuvraj changed forever after the family separated.
Yograj recalled that his life took a drastic turn when Yuvraj, at a young age, decided to live with his mother, Shabnam Singh, following the couple’s separation. “I was in jail when Yuvraj made his debut for India,” he revealed, adding that despite personal turmoil, he had always dreamed of making his son a great cricketer.
Reflecting on that period, Yograj said, “I am a sinner; I’ve made many mistakes. The day Yuvi and his mother left me, everything changed. Maybe God wanted to teach me a lesson.” He admitted that he endured long stretches of loneliness and even struggled to afford food at times, yet found strength through his spiritual faith.
“You never bought me a kurta-pyjama…”In the same conversation, Yograj voiced his disappointment toward Yuvraj’s choices, hinting at emotional distance and a lack of acknowledgment. “How can the father who sacrificed his blood and sweat to raise you be any less than your Baba? You never bought a kurta-pyjama for your father, but gifted Baba a watch worth 1.5 million rupees,” he said.
He further questioned, “Who are these relatives and these children? The man who built everything for his family was left behind. No one even gave me a house.”
