Pots and pans can accumulate grease over time, particularly if you use them often and enjoy cooking regularly. This grease becomes baked on and is incredibly difficult to remove, whether it is on the inside of the pan, or on the outside, such as the sides, bottom, or handle. It may feel like no amount of scrubbing will get this grease off, but fortunately, there is a simple hack you can use.
An expert has revealed that two natural ingredients - that you likely already have at home - can be used to cut through the grease and clean your pots and pans effectively. Tom, who is known to his 68,000 YouTube subscribers as Tom's Kitchen, worked in the LA restaurant scene and has picked up plenty of tricks of the trade.
explained that all you need to clean your pan is half a lemon and salt. He said that you need to cut a lemon in half and use that with salt. He recommended Kosher salt as it is coarser and will "help you scrub out the stain".
He continued: "The acidity of the lemon is aiding in removing the stain, and the salt is acting like a scrubber, an abrasive." Tom did suggest that adding baking soda into the mix could speed up the process, but it isn't necessary. He said: "Baking soda does a good job at letting the baked-on grease loosen up a bit so the lime and the salt can do its job."
Another issue that can be caused by cooking with oil in the kitchen is grease and oil stains on your clothes. While it can be frustrating and you may worry about having to throw the item of clothing away, there are things you can do to get it out.
A dry cleaning expert revealed that if you have run the item through the wash and are still panicking because the stain is still there, there is a simple solution. Known on TikTok as Clean Freakz, the expert said that you should take a "tiny bit" of dish soap and rub it in, making sure not to "overdo it".
He added: "Mix up some warm water and dish soap and work that in. Putting a bit of detergent on it helps too."
Another cleaning influencer, Chantel Mila, said her method was her "go-to for removing both old and fresh oil stains on your favourite clothing". She advised placing a plate behind the stain before covering the affected area with dish soap to "cut through the oil". Next, she said to sprinkle with baking soda then leave it to sit for ten minutes before washing as usual.
