I removed really bad limescale in my kettle in minutes by using 1 item - not lemons

Admittedly, it's been a long stretch of time since I removed limescale from my kettle. This meant that the kitchen appliance had become cemented in the stuff - and the moment it was affecting my brews, I knew something needed to be done.

While sliced lemons can be used to help dislodge limescale, I wanted to try a different approach. Not adverse to commercial products, this time around I opted for Oust Descaler, which is available in multiple supermarkets for as little as £1.60. While my kettle was heavily covered in limescale, I did have to use two packets to help really clear the calcium-rich deposits.

This was to be expected, however, as even the packaging advises two packets for heavily soiled kettles. The only unfortunate part of that, though, is that one box only contain three packets of the descaling solution.

The descaling process was rather straightforward, thankfully, clearly described step by step on the packaging. First, I filled the kettle with water, boiled it, then let it sit for 10 minutes to cool down.

Simply setting a timer of 10 minutes on my Alexa Echo Dot, I spent that time attending to other household chores. Once the timer went off, back to the kitchen I went, where I added the contents of the sachet into the kettle and let it work its magic for eight minutes.

As soon as the second timer went off, I simply poured away the limescale and could now see the bottom of my kettle. The next step is to fill the kettle with water, boil, and repeat to help get rid of any residue solution.

It must be noted, though, that the descaling agent is prone to staining painted kettles should any fall onto the outside of the appliance.

Unfortunately, my kettle already has some of its paintwork ruined, so I wasn't too bothered if this descaling solution made the situation worse.

While this method at removing limescale might not appeal to everybody, if done with care it's a great way to dislodge the unwanted debris. For me, as I have another sachet left, it'll definitely be a cleaning tool that I will be using again.
