Viktor Gyokeres is one of nine Arsenal stars who'll be putting in the hard yards back at base during the international break. Gyokeres, 27, picked up an injury after scoring in the Gunners' 2-0 win at Burnley at the start of this month. The striker missed Arsenal's next two games and wasn't called up by Sweden.
But Gyokeres is aiming to be back when the Gunners host Tottenham in the first North London Derby of the season on Sunday, November 23. Also hoping to return to Noni Madueke, who's been out side mid-September with a knee injury. Although the Spurs game might come too soon, the trio of Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are also closing in on returns.
Arsenal's longest absentee, Gabriel Jesus, has also returned to full training after a 10-month layoff, having ruptured his ACL in January. There's three other first-team players who'll be training at London Colney, too, after missing out on international call-ups.
Kepa Arrizabalaga and Ben White have had peripheral roles so far this season but are valued members of Mikel Arteta's squad. Myles Lewis-Skelly is also staying at home after missing out on an England call-up, dampening the 19-year-old's hopes of playing at the World Cup.
"I think we are here to support and help each other and to give a good perspective of the situation, and in the case of Myles, when you look at his age, what he's already done, he's just remarkable," Arteta said. "So don't look at the one moment what is happening for you because maybe it happens for the right reason and today you cannot see it."
The Arsenal manager was also asked about how Jesus is progressing ahead of Saturday's 2-2 draw away to Sunderland. "I don't know," Arteta responded.
"Now it's about making the steps day by day in a different surrounding. Obviously, he's been doing everything on his own; now he's got players around him, very competitive players around him, and see how he copes with that.
"But he's full of energy, I love the reaction of all his team-mates when he first joined us and yeah, great to have him back."
