PGA star Maverick McNealy, who recently tied for third at the RBC Heritage, is no stranger to a life of luxury. The 29-year-old golfer, currently ranked 10th in the world, finished just three shots behind Andrew Novak and eventual winner Justin Thomas.
McNealy has achieved five top 10 finishes in 2025 as he looks to add to his one professional win on the . However, he once contemplated leaving golf for a career in business. This was likely influenced by witnessing his father, Scott McNealy, build a company worth a staggering £5.56billion ($7.4bn). Growing up in glamorous surroundings, McNealy's unique childhood home was sold for £ 26.2million ($35m) last year. The family's Bay Area mansion was initially listed for a whopping £72m ($96m) in 2018. The golfer's parents spent £8.2m ($11m) constructing the vast property in 2008.
Scott McNealy, a tech billionaire with an estimated net worth of £750m ($1bn), co-founded Sun Microsystems and sold it for a cool £5.56bn ($7.4BN) in 2010. With their fortune secured, the family designed the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion with Maverick and their other three sons in mind.
Their Portola Valley home boasted remarkable features such as an ice hockey rink, golf course, rock-climbing wall, poker room, and party room complete with a disco ball. Other notable amenities included a home theatre and gym, as well as a hidden bunker equipped with panic buttons for the family's safety.
The luxurious 13-acre mansion wasn't seriously eyed for sale by its owners until 2019, when they almost halved the asking price to £39m ($53M) and remodelled the property to attract buyers. In 2020, former listing agent Deepee Chattha told : "A lot of heart went into building this home. It was built from love."
However, the McNealy family were forced to wait another four years until an LLC named Zenith Property finally purchased the private listing for £26.2m ($35m) in July last year.
Having a home golf course undoubtedly aided PGA golfer McNealy in refining his game. Once a top-tier youth golf talent in the US, he's now left his imprint on the professional scene, clinching the RSM Classic in November 2024.
Securing his initial PGA Tour victory seems to have spurred McNealy to greater heights this season. The 29-year-old notched two top-10 finishes before narrowly missing out on victory at the Genesis Open to Ludvig Aberg in February, arriving second just one stroke behind.

McNealy didn't stop there - he landed a T3 spot at the Valero Texas Open this month and finished the Masters at T32. The golfer then banked an impressive £720,000 ($960,000) with his performance at the RBC Heritage just a week later.
According to the , McNealy's earnings have reached a remarkable £3.6m ($4.8m) this year alone. His career prize money totals £12.7m ($17m) since he joined the tour back in 2020.
McNealy's golf-savvy upbringing has also served another family member well; his youngest brother Scout has caddied for the world No. 10 since late last year.
