Penny Lancaster has claimed her husband Rod Stewart set up a spy camera to monitor workmen moving his beloved model railway set from America to England. The Maggie May singer, who is an avid train modeller, was reportedly fearful his hard work could be damaged during the move from LA to his historic Essex home. Penny, 54, said how the 80-year-old was "pacing" around the living room before he came up with a plan to use staff who pull apart and transport film sets. The former Loose Women star said Rod set up a camera so he could "watch it all" being moved by the workers.
Penny went on to say that during her Routes podcast interview, the model railway took up the entire length of their loft in their LA home.
The supportive wife said Rod is "most content" whenever he's working on his railway, and she branded him a "master at it."
"In lockdown, we were in the UK - and we didn't know how long that lockdown was going to last, and he didn't have his trains - he couldn't work, so he was, like, pacing," she shared.
"And I said, 'We've got to get these trains over.' So he went, 'Is it possible? I said, 'No, no, it's not.'"
However, Penny thought of getting in touch with people who dismantle film sets who could help. She explained: "I think he had a camera set up so he could watch it all. They moved it into these containers and then on ships over to the UK.
"Now it's in pride and joy in very large containers in our back fields. It's all set in the sort of wartime '40s, '50s period, and it's sort of based on like New York, Chicago - not one particular city, but those American cities."
The star said model railway making is Rod's only hobby and claimed his sons, Alastair and Aiden, will get involved with it "just to get some extra pocket money".
