I should be banned from having white clothes, because I always tend to attract to every garment I have in that shade. My white jeans have been tormented with , food residue and blood - and I wasn't going to let my latest purchase go to waste.
My new white jeans - high-waisted and slightly flared - looked good with so many shoes and tops; I wasn't going to cast them off to the back of the wardrobe to never be worn again. Wearing the aforementioned jeans into work fairly recently, a trip to Farmer J at lunchtime resulted in the Harissa Bowl sauce splashing its orange sauce onto my new white pair (I can't be blamed, after all). Distraught, as soon as I could, I blotted the stain with some cold water and tissue, but the stain remained.
I had plans after work, too, so it wasn't like I could put them straight into the wash after a full day in the office.
While the stains might appear small to some, many will know how the orange marks can ruin a whole look.
When I did get home that evening, I knew some reinforcement would be needed to remove the unsightly stains.
Reaching straight for the white vinegar, I sprayed the stains before adding them to a regular warm wash for just over an hour.
To my horror, the white jeans came back out showcasing their orange badges of honour - this is not what I wanted.
The next step was to put them back straight into the wash, this time combining white vinegar spray on the stains and a cup of baking soda and some detergent.
Back in the wash they went and, this time, they came back out looking refreshed and stain-free.
In my apartment, I had to dry my white jeans on a clothing rack, but if I had it my way, they'd be outside; I'll explain.
Drying clothes outside on a sunny day is one of the best ways, in my opinion, to lift stains.
The UV rays from the sun are great at removing most stains that are wedged into the fibres.
But, for me, line-drying would have to do; and, thankfully, my jeans have come up lovely again.
Let's hope I don't have another clothing disaster anytime soon - I don't think I can take it.
