Since its debut in 2009, ITV's The Chase has been a staple on British TV, delivering countless unforgettable moments. From contestants outsmarting the Chasers to audiences gasping at missed chances for a hefty cash prize, the show has consistently kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Much of the show's appeal can be attributed to its loveable host Bradley Walsh. Yet, it may come as a surprise that Walsh wasn't the producers' initial pick to front the quiz show. Bradley has been at the helm since the first episode, extending his charm to the show's spin-offs The Chase Celebrity Special and Beat The Chasers. Known for his witty banter and comedic timing, the ex-Coronation Street star has won the hearts of the audience, who would likely follow him out the door if he ever chose to depart.

Despite his success, whispers have long circulated that Walsh wasn't the sole candidate in line for the hosting gig, reports My London. This speculation was put to rest by none other than the formidable chaser Anne Hegerty herself. During a chat with What's On TV, 'the Governess' revealed: "The first presenter considered for The Chase was Donal MacIntyre. Donal's a lovely bloke, but Bradley is such a cheeky chappy." She added, "He's great at bringing us down a peg or two".
The Irish investigative journalist wouldn't have been a poor choice by any means, as he was primarily known for presenting news, documentaries and television exposes at the time.
He had even demonstrated his popularity with fans through his agile moves on skates, having finished as a runner-up to Ray Quinn in the fourth series of Dancing on Ice in 2009 (the same year The Chase premiered). Donal also briefly presented ITV's local news programme, London Tonight.
However, producers ultimately chose Watford-born comedian Bradley Walsh. The former professional footballer has been a staple on British television since the 1990s, featuring in shows such as Coronation Street, Law and Order: UK and Doctor Who, among others. Nonetheless, he'll likely be most remembered for his stint hosting The Chase, a role he almost missed out on.
