Amazon doesn't often discount its perennially popular Kindle e-readers, but when it does the savings tend to be quite generous. Now is one of those times, as right now the latest version of the firm's premium Kindle Paperwhite is on sale for the discounted price of £135.99 in what Amazon says is a "limited time deal".
The Paperwhite is the best black and white screen pocketable Kindle with a more high end design than the cheaper Kindle, with a flush display, wonderfully sharp resolution and excellently uniform frontlight.
The Paperwhite Signature Edition is a special Paperwhite version that doubles the usual storage to 32GB and also adds an auto-adjusting light with wireless charging (though you need an optional dock to take advantage of the latter).
Extra storage is great especially if you are downloading audiobooks from Amazon-owned Audible to listen to on the Kindle with wireless headphones, as those files are much larger than e-book files.
Part of the reason this Kindle is cheaper, aside from the sale price, is because it is a Certified Refurbished version of the Paperwhite Signature Edition. That means it is not brand new, and is a unit that has likely been bought and returned to Amazon within the returns window.
"Each pre-owned device goes through a full diagnostic test, thorough cleaning and inspection, secure data wipe, and replacement of any defective parts identified in testing (where applicable)", Amazon says.

Buying refurbished is a good way to save on this latest model of the best Kindle Paperwhite, released in 2024. The refurbished model usually sells for £170.99, which is already less than the £189.99 brand new model. It makes the £135.99 offer a great deal, especially given the other advantage of the Signature Edition is that it does not display lockscreen ads, a pesky feature on some cheaper Kindle models.
A quick look at Amazon price comparison site Camelcamelcamel shows this is the cheapest this particular Kindle has ever been sold at.
Compared to older versions of the Paperwhite, this version has 25 percent faster page turns when you tap the touchscreen, plus a large 7-inch screen that's bigger than on older Paperwhites.
Amazon also quotes up to 12 weeks of battery life, but that depends on usage, screen brightness and how much you're connected to Wi-Fi.
It's not clear how long this limited time deal will run for, but you don't have to be signed up to Amazon Prime to access this special price.
