Online scams are getting smarter and more prevalent as more of our lives are becoming reliant on technology.
Scammers can pose as banking and government officials to trick people into sending money or handing over personal details, which could force shoppers to lose large amounts of cash. The good news is that there's technology out there to helpprotect shoppers from online scams as they evolve and become smarter.
McAfee has launched a new Scam Detector that helps spot scams that might worm their way into emails or text messages before they can do serious damage. It automatically spots scams and blocks risky links - even if they're clicked on.
The technology is designed to protect users from texts, emails, and deepfake video scams, plus users can choose the level of protection they would like. According to a Citizens Advice report last year, one in five people across the UK fell victim to a financial scam.
It's available for iPhone, Android, and PC and constantly monitors for scams, making it a great tool for everyone in the UK. It's believed that most Brits receive around 10 scam messages per day. McAfee uses AI to help spot possible scams within seconds and instantly flags messages that could be used to steal information, which could drain bank accounts.
McAfee's Scam Protection is bundled with its Total Protection bundle, which currently costs £10.99 at Currys instead of £11.99 for one year for one device. Or shoppers can pay £13.99 for one year for three devices, which can cover phones and PCs across the home. There's also McAfee's LiveSafe protection, which covers every device in the home and includes a virus protector, password manager, Scam Protection, and more for £79.99 a year.
McAfee isn't the only solution that's around to help people stop scams. Norton also has Norton Genie, which helps people detect scams. This starts at £19.99 for its basic protection, including a virus scanner and password manager. There's also Bitdefender Total Security for £49.99 a year, which includes scam protection and virus/malware protection for PCs.`
When it comes to McAfee, there are glowing reviews from users. One shopper said: "We have been buying this product for many years now. It is now very easy to install in our systems on computers and mobiles."
Another shopper added: "Have used McAfee for so many years now and find McAfee products easy to install, giving me good security when using my pc or surfing the web".
However, some users have had some issues. One user noted that they had installation issues. They added: "Every year, it is not the easiest software to install. At least this year, I did not need to contact McAfee for online support, but it still didn't install easily."
But a happier reviewer said: "I always buy McAfee and never have had an issue on any of my devices."
