KANPUR: A minor, aged around 13 - 14 years, was injured when he was assaulted by a group of minors after he refused to raise ‘Jai Sri Ram' slogan.
The incident took place in Sarsaul area of Maharajpur police circle in Kanpur. The accused allegedly attacked the Muslim boy with a glass and pierced his thigh with a piece of it during the assault. A formal FIR was lodged by the victim's grandfather in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the victim, who resides in Sarsaul, was heading towards the bus stop for purchases.
According to reports, another juvenile from the area, accompanied by two others, intercepted him. They insisted he bow down to them, and upon his refusal, compelled him to say, ‘Jai Shri Ram'.
The victim said that he has frequently encountered such behaviour and faced violence for non-compliance. That evening, they again blocked his path, insisted on religious chanting, and demanded submission. His refusal resulted in a violent assault, followed by an attack with broken glass on his left leg, causing significant injury.
Subsequently, his family lodged a complaint at the Maharajpur police station, where authorities registered a case under relevant BNS sections. ACP, Chakeri, Sumit Ramtek confirmed that the investigation is on, and further action will be taken accordingly.
