Rahul Gandhi dual citizenship case: Allahabad HC grants home ministry 10-day extension to submit final report

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) an additional 10 days to submit its final report in connection with a petition alleging that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi holds dual citizenship.

The court was hearing a plea that challenges Gandhi’s eligibility to hold a Lok Sabha seat, claiming he is also a citizen of the United Kingdom. The petition contends that Gandhi’s alleged foreign citizenship violates Indian law, which does not permit dual citizenship.

During the hearing, the counsel representing the MHA sought more time to complete the verification process and file the final report. Accepting the request, the court extended the deadline and scheduled the next hearing for May 5.

The case has sparked political interest as it questions the legal standing of one of India’s most prominent opposition leaders.

The High Court has made it clear that the matter must be resolved with due diligence and adherence to legal procedure.
