Did Taylor Swift secretly prefer another football star before Travis Kelce? Resurfaced video fuels speculation

Send Push
Before Taylor Swift was front and center at Kansas City Chiefs games and caught in romantic headlines with tight end Travis Kelce, she was rooting for a different football star — at least in a fictional world. A resurfaced clip from one of her biggest hits, “You Belong With Me,” has fans reminiscing about the time Swift’s on-screen love interest wasn’t a real-life NFL star, but an actor playing a high school quarterback.

Taylor Swift’s original football crush was a fictional high school star in 'You Belong With Me'
Released in 2008, “You Belong With Me” became a cultural phenomenon and helped cement Swift’s place in pop history. In the music video, she plays two roles — a shy, bookish teen secretly in love with the boy next door, and the cheerleader who already has his heart. That boy was played by actor Lucas Till, who suited up as a football player and became the focus of Swift’s character’s affections.

Swift later praised Till’s performance in the video, saying, “He’s absolutely perfect for the part and really fun to be around, too.” The video’s storyline was inspired by the classic high school love triangle, and Swift described it as “charming.” She added, “The whole video, I’m just sitting there pining away, wishing I could be in her position.”

Fast-forward to reality: Taylor Swift now supports an actual NFL superstar
Of course, that fantasy crush has since turned into real-life support for one of the NFL’s biggest names. Swift has become a regular fixture at Chiefs games, cheering on Kelce from private suites at Arrowhead Stadium to the grand stage of the Super Bowl. Despite Kelce’s team suffering a tough 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles recently, the pop icon remains one of his most visible and devoted supporters.

While the couple hasn’t been seen as often in recent weeks, sources close to them say their bond is only deepening. “They’re very serious and in sync,” one insider told People. “They know this time is special and won’t last forever.” Both Swift and Kelce have been traveling frequently, trying to enjoy quiet time together before football season and her music commitments ramp up again.

What began as a music video fantasy is now a high-profile romance — and Swift’s love for football, it seems, has only grown stronger with time.
