The Florida Panthers are making headlines once again, but not just for their Stanley Cup celebration. As the 2025–26 NHL season approaches, the reigning champions have quietly made a move that could prove crucial in their title defense. A familiar name — one who once shared the ice with Auston Matthews in Toronto — is now headed to Sunrise, and fans are already buzzing about what it could mean.

Panthers sign Noah Gregor to provide depth behind injured stars Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov

The Florida Panthers have signed forward Noah Gregor to a one-year, two-way deal — a strategic move to strengthen their roster as injuries hit early in the season. With Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov expected to miss the opening games, Gregor is set to serve as a backup, providing much-needed depth and flexibility. He can step in on the wings or support second- and third-line forwards like Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe, helping the team maintain its competitive edge.

Under captain Brad Marchand’s leadership, the Panthers are determined to keep their momentum despite early setbacks. Gregor’s combination of size, speed, and physicality makes him an ideal fit for head coach Paul Maurice’s aggressive, fast-paced system. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 201 pounds, he brings energy, grit, and defensive reliability, all essential traits for a team chasing consecutive Stanley Cups.

Noah Gregor could add NHL experience and depth behind Panthers’ injured stars
Over 293 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks , Ottawa Senators , and Toronto Maple Leafs , Gregor has recorded 70 points and over 550 hits, showcasing his ability to play a hard, two-way game. Last season, he appeared in 52 games split between San Jose and Ottawa, totaling seven points (four goals, three assists) and 94 hits while providing dependable minutes on multiple lines.

Gregor also has a strong junior and international background, winning a WHL championship with the Prince Albert Raiders in 2018–19 and earning a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Drafted 111th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2016, Gregor has built a career on adaptability, determination, and hard work. His signing ensures the Panthers have a reliable backup ready to step in behind Tkachuk and Barkov as Florida aims for back-to-back Stanley Cup glory.
