NEW DELHI: Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi , a senior academician and former director of IIT-Roorkee and Mandi, has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the ministry of education officials confirmed Thursday.
Currently serving as a professor in the department of electrical engineering at IIT-Kanpur, Chaturvedi will take charge for a three-year term or until he turns 70, whichever is earlier. "The President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor of BHU, has approved the appointment," a senior official said.
An expert in wireless communication, he completed his BTech, MTech and PhD in electrical engineering from IIT-Kanpur. He made notable contributions to waveform shaping, sequence design and MIMO ((Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) systems. He was also a lecturer at IIT-BHU during 1994 - 1996.
