Pakistan suffered a massive suicide attack on Friday at a military camp in North Waziristan ’s Mir Ali district, near its border with Afghanistan , killing seven soldiers.

The attack was carried out by suicide attackers linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan .

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ( TTP ), also called Taliban Pakistan, is a coalition of formerly separate militant groups that united in 2007 following Pakistani military operations against Al-Qaeda-linked militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

A viral video captured the massive blast, showing thick smoke billowing from the Pakistan army ’s camp.

Militant violence in Pakistan has long strained its ties with the Afghan Taliban , which returned to power in Kabul after the withdrawal of US-led forces in 2021.

The latest flare-up between the two neighbours began after Islamabad reportedly urged Kabul to act against militants launching attacks inside Pakistan from sanctuaries across the border.

The strike comes amid a fragile ceasefire along the Durand Line, following a week of intense clashes between Pakistan and Taliban-ruled Afghanistan that left dozens dead on both sides.

The truce, which began Wednesday evening, was agreed upon by both parties at the request of the Afghan Taliban regime, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed.
