In the 2025 IPL season, Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian national team in T20 cricket, made headlines by scoring 44 runs in a thrilling performance during Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings. He became the first non-opening batsman to accumulate 700 runs in a single T20 season, surpassing the previous record held by AB de Villiers from 2016. By the end of Qualifier 2, Suryakumar had amassed a total of 717 runs across 16 matches, including five half-centuries.
