NIT Goa to receive Rs 19cr central funding

Panaji: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Goa, is one of the seven SPOKE institutes paired with IIT Bombay that will receive Rs 19 crore of central research funding, the institute announced on Monday. The funding is under the PAIR (partnerships for accelerated innovation and research programme) by Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), which is to boost research in higher education institutions in the country.

Under the programme, NIT Goa will focus on collaborative research in the domains of industry 4.0, energy and sustainability.

“This is a landmark achievement for NIT Goa. This collaboration will strengthen research culture at NIT Goa and allow contributing to the regional and national innovation system,” said professor O R Jaiswal, director of NIT Goa.

NIT Goa is looking to carry out research in areas such as artificial intelligence. He said the project aims to create a national impact through interdisciplinary research, innovation, capacity building and mentorship, developing modern research infrastructure and conducting globally relevant studies.

Under this programme, substantial funding of Rs 144 crore has been proposed for the next five years. The project at NIT Goa is led by Chirag Modi, dean (research and consultancy) and faculty of computer science and engineering. The team will include faculty members Damodar Reddy Edla and Pravati Swain, Nithin Kumar Y B, Suresh Mikkili, C Vyjayanthi, Sreeraj E S, Soumitra Das, Harikumar M and Ravi Prasad K J.
